British vocal coach Paul Plummer is the Studienleiter at the Staatstheater in Oldenburg, where he also is the head vocal coach of the newly formed Opera Studio. Paul has been on the TMF faculty since 2013, coaching singers and working with the collaborative pianists, planning and accompanying concerts, and assisting the conductors.

Mr Plummer studied music at Oxford University and then piano accompaniment at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and attended courses at Tanglewood and at the Britten-Pears Young Artists’ Programme – working with Margo Garrett, Malcolm Martineau and Roger Vignoles, among others.

As an art-song accompanist he has performed across Europe, ranging from many of the UK’s major festivals and London’s Wigmore Hall and South Bank Centre to the Tonhalle in Zürich and Foyer Européen in Luxembourg; he has also played on many broadcasts with BBC Radio 3. In 2008 he devised and accompanied a mini-series of Strauss Lieder recitals at the Wigmore Hall; he is also the pianist on Love’s Voice, an album of English art-song with tenor Nathan Vale, and Die Schöne Müllerin with baritone Jamie W. Hall), both available on Spotify/Apple Music.

In 2020 he joined with colleagues from the BBC Singers to form a collective, Proud Songsters, which live-streamed monthly recitals during the Covid period – these are available to view on YouTube.

In 2008 he moved to Germany to work as repetiteur at the Kiel Opera House, then in 2010 took up the position of Studienleiter (Head of Music Staff) at Ks. Brigitte Fassbaender’s Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck, Austria.  He returned to the UK in 2013 to a freelance career; he was invited to work with the Jette Parker Young Artists (Covent Garden), the Academy of Polish National Opera (Warsaw), Buxton International Festival (as Chorus Master) and Edinburgh International Festival (as Assistant Conductor on the world première of Errollyn Wallen’s Dido’s Ghost, 2022). In 2023 he guested as repetiteur and assistant conductor for the Staatstheater Wiesbaden’s new productions of From the House of the Dead and (world première) Oryx & Crake, by Søren Nils Eichberg.
