Jaroslaw Lis is an accomplished violinist with an extensive career as an orchestral and chamber musician, soloist, conductor and educator. He currently serves as a principal player with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and performs with the Avery Ensemble.
He began his orchestral journey as the youngest member of Sinfonia Varsovia, collaborating with legendary musicians such as Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Emmanuel Krivine. During his time with the ensemble, he recorded for the Denon and Aperto labels.
His orchestral career is complemented by his passion for chamber music. As a member of the Assai Quartet, he earned Second Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and recorded with jazz legend Ahmad Jamal on Roesch Records.
Jaroslaw Lis holds a Master of Music degree, summa cum laude, from the Frederic Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where he was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture. He furthered his studies at the Yale School of Music, earning both an Artist Diploma and a Master of Music degree. His mentors include Krzysztof Jakowicz, Syoko Aki, and the Tokyo String Quartet. He was also awarded a scholarship to study with Nathan Milstein in Zurich.
Beyond performance, Jaroslaw Lis is deeply committed to music education. He serves on the faculty of the Trentino Music Festival in Italy and teaches violin and viola at Connecticut College. He has also held teaching positions at music camps and festivals across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
In addition to his orchestral and educational duties he is the Music Director of the Doctors’ Orchestra in Hartford, Connecticut and a founding member of the Music Adventure Camp at Tenuta di Spannocchia in Tuscany.
