Mitchell Piper’s far-reaching accomplishments have positively influenced the careers of performing artists for over two decades. A highly respected artist manager, his clients at Piper Artists Management are regularly engaged by the world’s leading opera houses, concert halls, and symphony orchestras including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, Opéra national de Paris, Teatro alla Scala Milan, the State Operas of Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, and Vienna, Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Symphony, as well as leading orchestras in Europe and Asia.
In 2000 he founded Music Academy International and is the Executive Director of the Trentino Music Festival. For the TMF he has established performance studios in opera, dance, orchestra, musical theatre, collaborative piano, and technical theatre services, making it the most comprehensive young artist performance and training festival in the world today.
Mitchell is the President of Opera Managers Association International – OMAI where he is recognized as a leading figure in the opera profession, regularly working with international association, unions, and opera houses to create collaborative efforts on behalf of managers and the artists they represent. An active member of many prestigious associations, he was recently invited to lead the opera panel for the IAMA 70th Annual Conference in Brugge, Belgium where he led discussions pertaining to the opera profession with prominent intendants and casting directors from leading European houses.
A strong advocate of music performance and education, Mitchell has presented master classes and career consultations for the Washington National Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Virginia Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, New York University, The Hartt School, Wichita State University, Kansas State University, the Juilliard School, the Mannes School, and the Manhattan School of Music.
Mitchell began his career as a performing artist and made his professional debut with the Connecticut Opera in Die Zauberflöte. He has appeared in leading roles Carmen, Ariadne auf Naxos, Fidelio, I Pagliacci, Susannah, Turandot, and Salome in the US and in Europe. His concert engagements include performances with the late Robert Shaw, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Avery Fisher Hall with Yehudi Menuhin, and performances for the Mozart Bicentennial at Lincoln Center. After stepping back from stage performances he chaired the Graduate Opera Program for the Hartt School and served as a Guest Lecturer at New York University.
